CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations must be performed 24 hours or more in advance or a $100 cancellation fee will be issued.BEFORE YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
Please read the following instructions carefully, as any animal that does not meet the outlined physical parameters for surgery (over/underweight, undisclosed medical conditions, vomiting), will be declined for surgery, and charges will apply. If your pet has a medical condition or is currently on medications, please call us to confirm whether they are a candidate for surgery within our program.
FEAR LEVELAt the time of booking, please notify staff of any behavioural concerns (fear, nervousness, aggression), to protect the safety of our team members and enable surgery to proceed. In these cases, we can provide your pet with a pre-appointment medication to help ease fear and anxiety.
A calm pet ensures a smooth anesthetic procedure.
If you do not request this medication, and your pet bites us, damages our equipment, crates, injures our staff, injures themselves, or is clearly very anxious/fearful to the point of aggressiveness requiring a control stick and muzzle placement, you will be invoiced a non-compliance fee of $150.
THE COST OF PRE-APPOINTMENT FEAR FREE MEDICATION IS $20 - PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU WOULD LIKE THIS FOR YOUR PET
Your pet must be between 4 months and 5 years of age
Your pet must be healthy – this means no history of chronic illness, seizures, heart murmur, current skin infection, fleas, etc
Your pet must NOT be significantly under or overweight - no pets over the weight of 45kg which translates to 100lbs.
Your female dog must not be in active heat, and their last heat must have been 2 months or more prior.
We highly recommend all pets be up to date with vaccinations and flea prevention, it is however not mandatory.
All surgeries are performed at the discretion of the medical team. A full physical exam will be performed on your pet upon admit. If it has been deemed your pet is unfit for surgery, we will contact you and a declined surgery fee of 50% of the total cost will be billed if it is clear the physical and preoperative parameters have not been met.
Males require both testicles present in the scrotal sac. If not present, please contact us to book a special surgery called a "cryptorchid" procedure.
EMAIL us at technician@forteriespca.ca for this request.
Brachycephalic breeds must be free of any moderate to severe breathing deformity. If you are unsure, please send a selfie of your pet face forward and side profile view to the technician team for evaluation at technician@forteriespca.ca
If your pet has had a litter – they must be nursing their babies for 8 weeks and fully weaned at time of spay procedure please.
All food should be removed from adult animals at midnight the evening prior to surgery, as
vomiting while under anesthesia could be fatal! They should continue to have access to water.
Pets must be kept indoors or confined to ensure no food is consumed. Animals that vomit
undigested food, clothing or foreign objects at any time during the medical process will be
declined for surgery. Charges will apply, and the appointment will have to be rebooked.
*Note: Bulldogs and other brachicephalic breeds must be free of any breathing difficulties.

VACCINES
In order to protect your pet from the possibility of contracting an illness while in our care, we RECOMMEND that you have your pet vaccinated at least two weeks prior to your appointment, it is however NOT MANDATORY.
*Note: It is a legal requirement and STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that ALL animals be vaccinated for rabies regardless of whether or not they go outside. They can receive the rabies vaccine the day of surgery if you do not have a veterinarian currently.
We STRONGLY recommend that all animals be deterred from licking their surgical sites through
the use of Elizabethan collars (e-collars) or surgical onesies. If your animal does lick, they can
open their incision or cause infection, incurring additional veterinary costs. Durable e-collars and surgical onesies can be purchased the morning of surgery.
Note: If you choose to purchase your e-collar from a pet store, please ensure that when pushed back against your pet’s shoulders, the collar extends at least 2" past his/her nose).
We’re conveniently located at the Fort Erie SPCA, a charitable organization
